The Old Mill, Ramsbury (upper Kennet). Once the home of FM Halford, the beat starts just below the historic mill house with its beautiful gardens. Here you will find a small hut and seating area. As you continue upstream the gardens broaden out into a wilder landscape with water meadows and reed beds, perfect conditions for the extensive bird life to be found here. Continue reading

Bere Mill. Upper river Test. Wild trout beat.

Bere Mill (Upper Test). Bere Mill is situated on the pristine upper river Test. A generous beat that offers a diverse array of fly water for between 1 and 3 rods. Main river, hatch pools and a carrier stream system that form part of the historic water meadow system. The beat is wild, requires wading in parts and is a wild trout beat run on a catch and release basis. Barbless hooks please. The fishing is challenging but wonderfully rewarding. The owners are keen environmentalists. The garden and farmland is managed according to organic principles and the surrounding water meadows are natural pasture. This bodes well for fly life and fly fishing. A delightful Japanese tea hut acts as a fishing hut. Continue reading

Main river Itchen. This short but beautifully maintained beat comes with a wonderful shepherds hut overlooking the river and the arable fields beyond. Perfect for a relaxing day’s fishing, it is located only a short walk from the village of Easton and its highly rated pub, The Chestnut Horse.
