OUR FLY FISHING INSTRUCTORS are nationally recognised experts in their field.  They are qualified to AAPGAI, GAIA and Level2 CAA standard.

Why play a round of golf with a caddy when you can have the club professional tutor you around the course?  This analogy fits our instructors exactly – no matter what your ability, you will learn, through clear explanation and practical coaching, from an instructor who is at the highest level in his field.

Ensure you make the absolute most out of your precious time on the water.  Take a lesson from a professional coach, either on the banks of the river Test to brush up on your dry fly techniques, or on our private estate lake learning how to stalk trout in gin clear water.

We have instructors specialising in both the trout (single handed) and the salmon (double handed) casting disciplines.

Included in all lessons is the use of the finest Hardy and Greys fishing tackle.

Fly Fishing Courses

Foundation coaching
For those wanting to start fly fishing or if you are returning to the sport after a break.  Cover the roll and overhead casts, shooting line, knots, lines and flies, tackle, hooking and playing fish, safety.

Improver coaching
To tackle those specific fly fishing techniques or problems.  For example: wind, tree cover, moving water, spooky fish, boat work and drifting, pike on the fly.

Chalk stream fly fishing coaching
Specifically for the river and stream angler – upstream dry flies and nymphs, riverside entomology, stalking fish, etiquette and safety.

Saltwater casting lessons.
Any plans to target our most sought after UK saltwater species on the fly – the sea bass?  Booking a trip after bonefish and tarpon?  The saltwater fly angler needs to be particularly efficient at casting in wind in order to cover fish effectively and safely.  With our saltwater tuition you will gain an understanding of the wind, the single and double haul, as well as specialist saltwater tackle and techniques for both UK and tropical saltwater fly fishing.

Distance casting lessons.
For saltwater and large still water fishing.  Get that extra distance – learn the single and double haul, distance casting tackle, shooting heads and the effective use of a line tray.

Salmon Spey casting lessons with Brett O’Connor (AAPGAI).
Brett has guided on some of the best Atlantic salmon rivers in the world including the Kola Peninsula in Russia.  With a double handed rod you can master the single and double Spey casts and advanced casts such as the ‘T’ snap and the snake roll.

Blast and Cast days.
Fly fishing and clay shooting tuition from professional fully qualified instructors in both disciplines, with a relaxing mid way lunch at the Peat Spade Inn.  For 6 persons.

Qualified Instructors

Our instructors are qualified Sports Coaches. They hold a fishcoach.org licence for game angling, a requirement for undertaking public authority coaching duties.

Each has worldwide cover to £5,000,000 public liability insurance, holds a valid first aid certificate, has been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau and has completed the 'Good Practice in Child Protection Awareness' training programme.
